
Consul General Nguyen Ba Hung was born 1961. He was appointed as Consul General of Viet Nam in San Francisco in July 2011.
Prior to his appointment to San Francisco, Mr. Nguyen was Director General of the Americas Department,Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In 2000, Mr. Nguyen was posted as Counselor for Political and Economic Affairs at the Vietnamese Embassy in Washington, D.C, and concluded his tour of duty there in 2003.
Mr. Nguyen joined the foreign service in 1987. Ever since he has been assigned to the Americas Department. He was promoted to Deputy Director General of the Department in 1998, then Director General in 2007. While leading the Department, he also was appointed to head the Viet Nam’s Office for Seeking Missing Persons three times in 1998, 2006 and 2010.
Mr. Nguyen earned his Master of International Public Policy degree at the John Hopkins University in 1996. He was a fellow at Georgetown University in 1995. He studied International Public Law at the Institute of Social Studies, the Netherlands, in 1990-1991.
Mr. Nguyen speaks Vietnamese, English and French.
He is married with one son and one daughter.
