INSTRUCTIONS ON VISA APPLICATION TO VIETNAM

1. General information

A VISA to Vietnamese can be applied by mail or in person at the Consulate General of Vietnam in San Francisco. Visa application dossier includes the following:

• The original PASSPORT.
• One completed Visa application form
• One 2"x2" passport-size photograph stapled or glued firmly to the application form.
• VISA fee: Money order or Casher's Check (Certified Check) payable to "The Consulate General of Vietnam".  
• A self-addressed postage-paid envelope (a self-addressed pre-paid FedEx Shipping Label with effective FedEx account number or a pre-paid US Postal Office service envelope are preferred), if applied by mail or the applicant requests the visa to be returned by mail within the United States.(*)
  
  2. Diplomatic and official visas
   
• Diplomatic and official visas will be granted GRATIS unless otherwise agreed upon between Vietnam and the applicant's country.
• In addition to the documents specified above, the applicant must submit a Note verbal or an official letter from the concerned agencies of the U.S. federal government, foreign embassies or consulates accredited to the U.S., international organizations.
  
  3. Business visas
   
• In addition to the documents specified in (1), applicant must obtain approval through sponsor in Vietnam. The Consulate General  will issue visa(s) only upon approval by Authorities in Vietnam.
  
  4. Processing Schedule
   
• Two business days are required to process visa applications. Please do not make telephone status inquiries prior to these deadline. Please remember to note down your passport number and inform the Consular section that number when you call to check visa status.

Visa reception windows open from 8.30 AM to 12.00 PM. Phone calls are picked up and mails are received  from 9.00 AM to 12.30 PM and from 2.30 PM to 5.00 PM (Pacific Time), Monday through Friday. Please note that the Consulate General is closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and certain U.S. and Vietnamese holidays.

* The Consulate General can also return issued visas to applicants by other mailing services, such as UPS, DHL, or Airbone Express...However, please note when these alternate mailing services are used, the applicant or the recipient must provide appropriate mailing labels, account numbers. The Consulate General will not be responsible for any delays resulting from the carrier's transport and misrouted package because of insufficient postage and missing authorized account numbers.
